The Stacks 2.0 Testnet is Live

It appears that Blockstack has launched the Stacks testnet today – To get started right away, visit blockstack.org/testnet.   Go try it out and get ready for the launch of the mainnet later this Summer.

Go to the testnet and try out running a node, mining (coming soon), creating smart contracts, testing…

Welcome to The Stack Cafe^TM — A Giant Leap for Blockstack – Testnet for Stacks^2.0, a new mining protocol.

Blockstack is about to introduce a new mining mechanism – Stacks^2.0 or proof-of-transfer (PoX).  In this new protocol, a new secure blockchain is established in which the miner transfers the cryptocurrrency to another participant on the blockchain instead of burning the cryptocurrency.  This new Pox protocol helps incentivize – earn rewards – network participants to actively participate in the network but also may help eliminate the bootstrapping problems for new blockchains and make the new blockchain protocol more stable and secure.

The Stacks Genesis Block release was designed to smooth the path and further facilitate the building of decentralized applications (dApps) by developers.  In addition, the latest iteration also enabled the distribution of Stacks tokens to pre-existing purchasers and the registration of smart contracts and Stacks tokens.  For more on the latest software release, please visit the Blockstack forum page.

And, to go along with the latest release, Blockstack performed a Stacks token transfer a couple of days ago.  The Blockstack Stacks token network is now live.

This survey showed a “stunning increase in mobile broadband usage.”  And, with an increase in the internet usage coming from mobile devices, it follows that more applications will be developed for mobile devices – e.g., dApps, decentralized applications.

This type of internet usage is growing and bodes well for the application developers in the mobile and decentralized application space.  For example, Blockstack, Ethereum, EOS and many other platforms are being built to provide an ecosystem for not only regular internet use but for use on mobile devices. Blockstack recently released a platform to help developers build applications for use on mobile devices.  See Blockstack iOS SDK.

Some of the features/ideals of Fupio include:

• Fupio uses tags to categorize the posts
• Social networking communities should be free when sharing their thoughts.
• The platform should be democratic, and the community itself should decide on the unwanted content.
• Platform data should be public and private information should not be requested from the user.
• The user can not be forced to export any data that can not be published publicly.
• Ads can not run on the platform.
• Tools that attempt to skew user behavior can not be added to the platform.
• Everything is public
• Fupio running own blockchain and there is no economy yet
• Blockchains keep all data forever
  • But we can hide on UI of course
    • Will be added next version.
