So without further ado, please go forth and watch, listen and learn not only about Blockstack, but how easy the Blockstack team has made it to use the Blockstack ecosystem (via the Blockstack browser) and how easy it is to build decentralized applications for use on the Blockstack internet (blockstack.js) via the Blockstack browser.

As the dApps shown above are taken from beta versions to live dApps that are available on the Blockstack ecosystem, we will try and provide a brief overview of each dApp as they inject updates, if applicable. What a great job to everyone involved in the Blockstack Berlin. Go Blockstack!

Blockstack’s Browser

Blockstack harnesses all of the power of the traditional internet and then adds the Blockstack Browser on top. The Blockstack Browser opens the window to a new internet, a decentralized internet that puts the power back in the hand of the users. To begin your journey into the new decentralized internet designed by Blockstack, you will need to install the Blockstack Browser. The Blockstack Browser is your window/portal into the new decentralized internet for decentralized applications (dApps).

Now that you have the browser installed, visit the Blockstack Browser homepage and try out some of the active decentralized applications – e.g., investment portfolio management, messaging, word processing… More decentralized applications are being added as developed.

The event is a who’s who of decentralized internet thinkers from Nick Szabo, George Gilder, Elizabeth Stark, Juan Benet, Edward Snowden… just to name a few. The entire lineup of speakers is top notch. Let take a quick peek of the aforementioned speakers:

Nick Szabo – is a computer scientist, lawyer and cryptographer known for his research in digital contracts and digital currency. He is credited with “bitgold”, a precursor to bitcoin and developed the concept of “smart contracts”. Please find a blog by Mr. Szabo here – http://unenumerated.blogspot.com/

George Gilder – information theorist, investor, writer, economist, techno-utopian advocate, and co-founder of the Discovery Institute.

Juan Benet – creator of IPFS and Filecoin, founder of Protocol Labs. He is the inventor of the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), a new protocol to make the web faster, safer, and more open, and Filecoin, a cryptocurrency incentivized storage network.

Elizabeth Stark – Ceo and Co-founder of Lightning. Lightning is an open protocol layer that leverages the power of blockchains and smart contracts to make cheap, fast, private transactions available to anyone around the world. The lightning protocol dramatically improves the scalabilty of blockchain currencies like Bitcoin.

Edward Snowden – is an American computer professional, former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee, and former contractor for the United States government.

And, don’t forget, the co-founders of Blockstack (Muneeb Ali and Ryan Shea) are on the line-up too. A complete listing of all of the speakers scheduled to speak this Friday can be found at this link here. Check out the Blockstack Berlin video here as well as past Blockstack event videos here.

These people know the decentralized internet like it was the back of their hand. All of these people have what I call [sg_popup id=”17″ event=”hover”]The Expanding MindTM[/sg_popup]. If you have any interest in this stuff and want to be enlightened about decentralization of the internet, make sure you join everyone at Blockstack Berlin.

Welcome to the Stack CafeTM — Developers Corner series: Multi-Reader/Player Storage – We left off with a high-level overview about the tools created by Blockstack for developers (and others) to use to build the decentralized applications (dApps) for use on Blockstack’s decentralized internet.

Next, in line in the Developers Corner series is a high level overview of a first in the decentralized dApp internet space – the ability to share data (public/private) that was stored in your preferred storage choice. This wonderful feature is referred to as either multi-reader storage or multi-player storage. And, up until its introduction by Blockstack, it has not been available in the decentralized application (dApp) space. This is a first for the dApp space and for Blockstack.

The introduction was the next logical next step for the dApp space on the Blockstack ecosystem. The first two steps being Blockstack Authentication (SSO and authentication without 3rd parties or remote servers) and Single Player Storage (ability to store all of your app data privately).

Not to get to deep into the tech – better left to the engineers (see video below), multi-reader storage allows for the data that you write into storage while using a dApp – via the Blockstack browser & ecosystem, to be readable only by you or by others that you give access too (if you so desire). In other words, you are now able to own and share your data (created when using a dApp) with only people of your choosing, no need for a third party to help you do that.

A great visual resource (see video below) that provides a more detailed and technical overview of Blockstack’s multi-player reader (storage) was presented a few months back at one of the Meetups – in particular Blockstack NYC during September 2017. The presentation – by Mr. Jude Nelson, a Blockstack Engineering Partner – provides some excellent information on multi-reader storage and how it works.

The ability of the user – no one else – to own and control access to the user’s (your) data is at the core of the Blockstack vision. It is a fundamental shift from the internet we use today – centralized versus decentralized. Imagine the new internet The Decentralized WayTM in which your data (written word, spoken word, other things internet…) resides with you – only you, is controlled by you and not by anyone (or company) else. With the introduction of multi-reader storage, it is hard not to be a developer/user/supporter of Blockstack and the Blockstack community. If you have not done so, go give the Blockstack browser a try.

If you want to give a Blockstack dApp that implements multi-reader storage (caveat – you need a blockstack id and some features are in beta version) a try, look no further than Graphite. Graphite provides the platform for you (the user) to create something new – a story/letter… with its word processor, a budget with its spreadsheet tool or a new conversation (messaging).

Then, Graphite gives you the ability – thanks to the Blockstack browser and internet portal (Blockstack architecture), and of course multi-reader storage – to keep your creation/data to yourself, share it with one of your contacts or share it with the world. It is yours, you made it, you own it, so you should control it.
