The Stacks Genesis Block release was designed to smooth the path and further facilitate the building of decentralized applications (dApps) by developers.  In addition, the latest iteration also enabled the distribution of Stacks tokens to pre-existing purchasers and the registration of smart contracts and Stacks tokens.  For more on the latest software release, please visit the Blockstack forum page.

And, to go along with the latest release, Blockstack performed a Stacks token transfer a couple of days ago.  The Blockstack Stacks token network is now live.

As we mentioned in an earlier post here, the Blockstack Community Rewards Program is a way to reward community members for the value they bring to the ecosystem.

It looks like the ways to contribute has grown and the list of contributors and rewards has grown too.  Let’s take a look at what is new to the world of Blockstack contributions and stacks rewards.

For example, it appears that Blockstack PBC has upped the ante and is offering a $1,000,000 in grants of $100,000 each to ten teams to create a new Social Network.  Blockstack PBC puts it this way:

“No single entity should have unilateral say over how 2 billion people connect and communicate. The current centralized model of social networking has created a stranglehold on our collective consciousness, communication, and friend network. But we’re at an inflection point — a moment where people can reclaim control of the way they network.”

Blockstack PBC will even award stacks to the person that pushes out a tweet or post about the same initiative – Request for a Social Network” –

“Sometimes the best founders can be hidden, that’s why we want your help in getting the message out to extraordinary founders looking to build decentralized social networks using Blockstack.  Click ahead to learn more!”

The initiative promoted by Blockstack PBC for the $1,000,000 grants for a new social network can be found here.

So, if you are up to the task or have the team up to the task, follow the links above and build the social network for the decentralized internet on Blockstack.

The post Blockstack: Stacks – The Token for use on the Blockstack Ecosystem has gone “live” with a testnet appeared first on The Stack Cafe™.

The entire process is deemed to be fully transparent, from raising funds, expenses, reimbursements to other spending….  It looks like a neat open source crowdfunding platform for associations. 

We will try and do a quick overview of open collective for you.

With open collective, the developers put forth an open source platform to help open source projects that have created open collectives to raise money and share their expenses in a transparent way.

open collective further describes itself in these words:

“OpenCollective enables groups to quickly set up a collective, raise funds and manage them transparently.

We want all those seeds to have a chance to grow, to bring their ideas to life. We believe everyone should have the tools to create the organizations of tomorrow. And we are dedicating ourselves to making that happen!”

Sounds great, and it is open source and transparent.

And, it appears to help solve the problem of raising resources to fund new ideas whether the group is small or large.  This type of project may blend in well with other open source projects e.g. blockstack.(or dApps on top of blockstack e.g. Souq)

We have not tried out open collective but will give it a go at some point (when we do we will try and provide a brief overview). But, it looks like a great tool to help with the transparent crowdfunding space. In the meantime, go give it a try and give us and/or open collective some feedback.

In addition, open collective is open source.  We like that and try to promote open source. See our post on open source here.

And, perhaps it may be a tool that can be used on the Blockstack ecosystem (e.g. a decentralized voluntary association crowdfunding – or perhaps it may be a good chance for collaboration with another dApp that does the same type of thing for voluntary associations and crowdfunding – cryptocracy/souq).

We recently heard that Team Graphite – the dApp that can be used on the Blockstack ecosystem (which provides identity authentication, security, encryption and storage options etc.) to create documents sheets, conversations and more without giving up privacy – just announced a job posting on the blockstack forum – Paid Contracting Job For Graphite.

It appears that Team Graphite needs an experienced developer to help build and promote Graphite. Team Graphite plans on paying a total of $4,000.00 over a two month period during the Summer of 2018.

Another very important part – a vital part – of the Blockstack ecosystem is the Evangelist. The Evangelist is person on the front line, so to speak, promoting and growing the Blockstack ecosystem in their own backyard. Evangelists are making it happen in the real world, everyday.

As Blockstack states – “Everyday[ ] Evangelists are helping educate and build community around the decentralized web movement.” A list of some of the Blockstack Evangelists may be found here.

Today, we will provide a brief overview of the toolkit for Evangelists that has been posted on the blockstack forum by Mitchell Cuevas. 

As Mr. Cuevas opines (re: Evangelist Toolkit): “This is a resource for Evangelists that will be regularly updated with new materials as they become available. It contains things like templates, presentations, links, and more.”

With LessPass, the developers put forth an open source password manager that allows for remembering “one master password to access your passwords, anywhere, anytime.” 

LessPass further describes itself in these words:

LessPass generates unique passwords for websites, email accounts, or anything else based on a master password and information you know.

LessPass is different from other password managers that you can find on the Internet because:

• It does not save your passwords in a database
• It does not need to sync your devices
• It is open source (source code can be audited).”

Sounds great, and it is stateless.  Stateless – via a general definition – “In computing, a stateless protocol is a communications protocol in which no information is retained by either sender or receiver, meaning that they are agnostic of the state of one another. ” (See this link here)

And, it appears to help solve the problem of having to remember multiple passwords, breaches, syncing and the code is perhaps more robust based on the audit-ability of the same (open source).  This type of project may blend in well with other open source projects e.g. blockstack.

We have not tried out LessPass but will give it a go at some point (when we do we will try and provide a brief overview).  But, it looks like a great tool to help with the password conundrum.  In the meantime, go give it a try and give us and/or LessPass some feedback.

In addition, LessPass is not trying to take advantage of anyone.  LessPass prides itself on

• being open source open source (GPLv3 license)
• refuses to install cookies, analysis tools on our applications
  • (there are no Google Analytics, or links to external services on our tools).

The team at Graphite – the dApp that can be used on the Blockstack ecosystem (which provides identity authentication, security, encryption and storage options etc.) to create documents sheets, conversations and more without giving up privacy – just pushed out an update to its dApp – Storage Replication with Remote Storage. 

Below, you will find Graphite’s announcement – on remoteStorage’s forum – of the use of the remoteStorage application and protocol on its dApp (as used on the Blockstack ecosystem).  For more on Graphite, see here, here, here and here.

As Graphite (built on top of Blockstack) notes, “…a RemoteStorage integration to allow for data replication[]” has been introduced on the dApp and “…the encryption methodology [from Blockstack] still works the same way as files encrypted and stored through Blockstack’s storage protocol – [Gaia].”

Remote Storage (open source) describes itself as an “open protocol for per-user storage on the Web” and as providing users to be able to:
